I have noticed that this years 1.5s dont have mylar panels any more and was wondering what advantages if any and disadvantages the mylar panels have

I don't think they were any advantage Bob, other than a perceived (by some) layout improvement. In my experience the mylar panel's tend to deteriorate faster than the ripstop.

No, i'd see it as a positive change Bob not just marketing. I've bought both with and without mylar in Revs and would definitely choose "without" in future

David I ment the Mylar was marketing as they have now dropped it ,so I agree with you, With the introduction of the Baressi model I wonder how long the SLE will last as standard as well

I think REV Quality in relation to the sail,be it Mylar or Wripstop isnt consistant anyway.I have two revs with the same sail pattern that are diffrent in build quality.I did buy them from diffrent Retailers if that makes a diffrence. No complaints,just noticed the diffrence.
Love the new Revs and see it as a positive[more to buy]but i have a few Revs with Mylar[customs]and i do like the look on the kite

With the mylar I found that it:
- tends to drop down, almost out of control at the extreme side of the wind window as compared to the all polyester sail.
- it is more radical.
- it lacks precision.
- it glides much better on the javelin throw.

I personally prefer the all polyester sail.

Two points I have read but can’t remember where.
1. The mylar was used to provide stiffness and to reduce stretching in the sail.
and
2. the mylar was removed by popular demand (I think, but not sure, I read tat on the Rev Forum, straight from the horse’s mouth so to speak)

I must say I have owned both but prefer all cloth but I think spar choice makes more diff than mylar or not

Thought i had read the other way around BOB about the STRETCH in Mylar Vs Wripstop.Not 100% sure but i understood that the New REV was minus the Mylar to reduce Stretch and increase precision and life of the kite .
Spars are the key as said above and offcourse correct line lenght .I recently flew with over 4inchs out on one line.Noticed it obviously streight away.Since that i always stretch them out after a long REVALATIONS session.
