Stacked Revs

Fri Apr 01, 2005 9:31 pm

I've only ever seen 2 Revs.
My EXP that I've owned for about 2 years and the 1.5 that belonged to a friend of a friend that inspired me to buy mine - much more interesting than a traction kite! :-D

Anyway, on the video that came with my Rev, at the end there was a short clip of the chap flying a stack of about 7 Revs.

Also, there's these two pictures I found:

I'm presuming these are stacked - it's hard to tell!

Two different types just to complicate things!

Anyone stacked their Revs before?

How and where would you attach the connecting lines? I've seen it done on a number of flexifoil power kites but that's kinda obvious.

How would this affect performance? I would only be looking at stacking a couple of EXPs. Is it worth it or is it more of a novel idea?
Cheers,

Stew.

It's just a novel idea really. Looks great though, and a bit of fun for a while. I've got a stack of 5 mini revs that are quite tough to fly unless it's blowing a gale. You do lose a fair bit of precision.

you can just about make out on your pics where the attaching lines are, top and bottom of the down spars. Doesn't really matter how you attach them (any old knot will do) so long as there all the same length.

So directly tie spar-to-spar? A few clove hitches should do the trick then.

I could only find the one picture and couldn't see much detail.

A link off that page did lead me to see this pic:

which made me realise I hadn't noticed the lines connecting the ends of the leading edges before!
Seems pretty obvious now.

They are 3 different sizes. That's a rev 2 at the front, a 1.5 in the middle and a 1 at the back. It's no more fun that flying one on it's own, just impresses people more.

Have you tried flying through a dog stake Stew? description here http://fracturedaxel.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=5448&

No not yet but I saw it while looking through everything here. It's certainly one to try and I reckon that it'll confuse the hell out of me!

One to try while no one else is around. :-D (I might let a first aider watch!)

There's some pics of the Flying Squad's Rev stacks on our site: http://www.aeolian.co.uk

For example here:

Staked Rev pictures

Thu Jun 02, 2005 9:58 pm

These are my stacked revs (home made).
I have 20 but it's very hard to find the correct wind to fly all the stack...
Ciao.

Bru,
Do you have the last kite tilted back slightly?
I find this helps stabilize the last kite.

Hi Belblade & Stan, you are right, I have no gauze in the leading edge, the size is a little larger than rev 1.5, I used 3 spars 32.5 = 97.5 in. (247.5 cm.) for the leading edge and 2 32.5 in. for the vertical spars so I have not to cut them. I 'm planning to substitute the white fabric of the eyes with gauze to have less pull, so I can fly more than 10 revs in heavier wind. I tried different setting with the last kite, I agree that the better one is to tilt it a little back, but very little, otherwise I have instability near the ground. To avoid problems I have to mantain all the four lines always in tension and fly slowly.
Ciao.
