First quad flight today....

Fri Apr 20, 2012 5:33 pm

....on my newly acquired Rev1.5 SLE ( Cheers Plod). It was....er..interesting. First 10 minutes try to sort out the lines, next 10 minutes ..nothing, lots of turning over but no flight.....then I realised I'd got the top & bottom lines the wrong way round on one of the handles  That sorted and flight!....then ground..then flight!..then ground...lots of spinning ( not all planned) then sustained flight!....well about a minute..then ground. Tried launching and landing but when I tried to decend it veered of to the left.....probably dual line habits. It's going to be a steep learning curve! :? Control? currently like an excited puppy on a polished wooden floor....as the song goes "Things can only get better".

I know exactly what you mean! But they are very addictive.
Next time I'm up Lincoln way I'll see if you wanna have a bit of fly.
You can have a go with the UL frame in (winds permitting) and a go with the Chinese copy one I've just got. Seems fairly well made, but the spars aren't as good and may need replacing with skyshark. I've not flown it yet though and a friend has one the same and he is really happy with it, so maybe the carbon will be fine.

Just keep practicing. I found it a great help flying with other Rev flyers who put me right on a few things which made flying a lot easier, ie using brake on the bottom lines to give more control. etc.
I am going the other way and trying out dual lines and single line which I was introduced to at Calke Abbey last month. (What a nice guy Stafford Wallace is)

Was funny seeing your post... It's pretty much exactly the same as my one after my first flight! I had my B2 up about 4 or 5 times now and I'm certainly starting to see improvements... I still do loads of moves that aren't intentional, but I'm getting there.

When I started I could only fly inverted Us: up, turn, down.
Re-reading the leaflet, I found the bit that mentioned "tapping" the break lines.
That worked wonders for me.Rather than trying to correct an unwanted turn with a constant pull on the break, I gave it a tug ( a short sharp shock, perhaps). Stability was restored, and after that everything fell into place.

(oh, there was also the bit - "fit the sticks behind the sail")

Good Luck

Yes, that was my first mistake too.

Got out again today and things went much better. Spent most of an hour in the air, not exactly totally in control, but in the air. Up, Down, left, right, spins even briefly backwards but that was a fluke not planned. :)

Now, the one you have to master is the one where you set the Rev to come screaming down towards the ground, leading edge first, and bring it to a stop just inches before it turns into a quivering mess of molten ripstop on the (doggy-doo-polluted) ground.
Not as difficult as you might imagine. Even I can do it!
But the real bit of expertise comes when you can then back the kite up into the air, upside down!
Me, I CAN do it.

I'm still waiting for someone to show me a Rev doing "my" (one and only) quadline trick. Anyone got a link ? C'mon... if I can do it then it must be easy.
