Wanted first stunt kite

Tue Aug 01, 2017 8:16 pm

Hi,

I'm looking for my first stunt kite. Looking for something that I can get the hang of the basics and use as a stepping stone to something slightly more advanced in about a year.

Are you specifically looking for a new kite, or is used also ok? What do you intend to do? Tricks or precision? Or both? How much are you willing to spend, roughly? If you give us a better feel for what you are looking for, we can point you in the right direction.

Thanks flying fish, either new or used would be fine.

Precision mainly - I would like to make sharp turns and large shapes at good speed with a good pull. Maximum would be £100.

How about a second-hand Kitehouse Sin? I might know where you could lay your hands on one within your budget ;-)

Regardless, though, I think you are probably better off going for a capable kite straight away, rather than wondering whether the reason you can't get it to do what you want is down to the kite or the flyer. I started out with cheaper (£50-80) kites, but it was only when I moved up to the Sin that I really started to get a feel for what was going on. Use the search function on here to find some previous recommendations from people who know more than me, PM me if you are interested in the kite I have listed.

That Sin would be a pretty much perfect beginner kite IMHO.

Its a big and pretty slow flyer, its forgiving and with few idiosyncrasies and no matter how good you get at flying you won't outgrow its capabilities.

Decent pull on the Sin too if that floats your boat.

ive seen the Sin in action and it is a lovely trick kite. You said you want to do precision, the Sky Dog Dream On should do that (im not sure it it has a strong pull though)

Thanks, not sure the sin is for me. Am looking at the prism quantum. Does anyone have experience of that? I can see them new online at around £75. Thanks,

You can lead a horse to water ....

The Prism is pretty cheap and cheerful kite, its not adequately framed, its limited in in tricks and precision and you'll outgrow it within a month or two.

But its your money ...

As Fraser says, the Sin is 10 times a better kite than the Quantum, the Quantum is not good at all.

I have a Level One Merlin that’s not had any use for a while. I used it as a beater kite (as did previous owners) so it’s far from pristine, but it flies well and makes the basics very accessible. Cheap way to get started, and while you’ll probably be wanting more after a while it’ll take you further than the Quantum.

If I were you though I’d snap that Sin up though. It’s my go-to kite.
