Talon UL Review needed

Wed Oct 08, 2008 9:27 pm

I am thinking of asking father christmas for a JoE Talon UL.
I've searched for a review, but drawn a blank so far. Does anybody (not you Mark :) ) have anything nice or otherwise to say??
I already have a STD Talon, but here in Munich the wind is crap - often weak with thermal gusts - so that I can only fly the thing 1 day in every 4.

I highly recomend the Talon UL to you - very happy with mine. In truth it's more of a light to ultra light - does have good inertia though and feels very like a lower mass version of the Standard. You can spank it round the sky remarcably vigorously too :-).

If you like the Standard you will like the UL it's as simple as that.

I've got a new kite...

This ain't it, but I went to handy-cam to charge up and stuff ready for the weekend. Should have a reasonable chunk of Sunday to play with, so thought I might be able to grab a bit of footage of the new toy (which is sublime btw) and found a tape half way through with some flying on it.

'Dash it all' I thought. 'I'd forgotten all about that'. Didn't do the review either, but hey...

So the review goes something along the lines of... 'sweet' and the video is here . It's another one of those 'be better next time around' ones. The flying's not the best, and the video construction is a bit pants if I'm honest with myself, but you'll get the idea. Oh, and I forgot to cut of the soundtrack, so the music plays on it's own for another minute or so after - don't get waiting around for a dramatic ending.

I will have another go at this, but there's limited flying time to play with just now, and sooo many nice toys to choose from.

Video is still awaiting a better effort.

I know I'm not allowed to reply to this but I have to!

The best JoE kite you can buy is the Talon UL. It's the best thing I've ever made and I absolutley love it. Every time I use this kite I know I'd be hard-pushed to make anything better.

It is weird that the UL turned out so nice, but so many customers have re-affirmed what I have thought.

No more Mark saying "Yeah it's great" bollox.

If you own only one Talon. It should be the UL because it really is complete.

I flew Bryan Beasley's UL recently on 75ft lines and it was even nicer than mine on 100ft lines. 75ft lines soon to be ordered!

Thanks for the advice everybody. The letter to Santa has just been sent (Santa Claus, c.o. JoE, Kettering).
I can't wait for the winter high pressure days...blue skies, light winds and freeeezing temperatures.

I've spent a few hours flying my new Talon UL this weekend. What a great kite. Most fun I've ever had in light (1 to 3mph) wind. All the modern tricks and the nicest flat spin stuff I've ever experienced.

My wife announced that she'll buy me a Talon UL so I ordered one yesterday (before she changes her mind). Looking forward to it.

The riser isn't in my bag of tricks so I can't say.
It does do nice yo-fades & crazy copters though.
