I'd like some sticky back dacron to place over some rather worn leading edges. I don't seem to be able to see any in our favourite online kite parts shop?
Plenty of sources from the sailing world. Sailmakers use it for sail numbers, but you can get rolls of repair tape (dacron, mylar, spinnaker, etc.) from sailing shops, e.g. http://www.sailboats.co.uk/Cat~Tapes_4652.html.
Don't assume that dacron tape is sticky backed in the kite world. When I ask for dacron tape I get ribbon not sheets: ask the retailer beforehand please.
Love Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Needs to fly more, now that I can.
As Vee said, check prior to ordering. The dacron tape from Highwaymen is definitely not sticky-backed by default (I ordered it from them several times), but they may have sticky-backed tape as well.
I use gaffers tape - it stays put and lasts a long time.
I mainly put it right above the yoyo stoppers where the line/leader will sometimes ride where the stopper is attached and the LE dacron. Over time, this will cut a slice into the dacron.
With the tape there - the tape wears. The nice thing about gaffers is that the black turns white when it is worn and then you just put another piece on. I've also put it on other wear areas - nose seams to prevent fraying and also snagging. It works great and a roll will last you a lifetime.
