I'd been searching for a nice example of this little kite for ages. Then I managed to get a 'sail-only' on ebaY.

Many thanks to Nigel and to Tim for information on framing details and help sourcing appropriate materials.

M2 - SUL

Image

I wax told that this was the first SUL made by Ray and probably a prototype. There are a few differences to the M2s that I have seen. Most notably is that the stand-offs were simply 'glued' onto the sail for weight-saving. I understand that this was not good therefore I have changed it slightly to include moulded fittings.

It has gold thread for the stitching which I have not seen before:

It feels very light (weight in here when I've found the scales). Maybe I can fly it on one of those Summer evenings with a very light sea-breeze like we used to have.

Finished my Magnet UL. Pic taken before I tied the bridle, but it's ready to go now. Hasn't been flown due to the ridiculous wind here in Seattle, but hoping to get some relief soon.

Looks very nIce but I'd have it as a standard, I alway feel that UL's should be in light colours.

Love to see Serpents fly, especially a mass launch of them!

Nice looking kite. Really like the Magnet great fun to fly and the STD will fly real low. The UL should go really low. Nice job Steven.

Thanks Mike. I haven't flown it yet... still fighting with rain here in Seattle. Hopefully the coming weeks will present some good flying time.

I still believe the Vented should have a Design Award ;)
