Can'taz

Sun Oct 20, 2013 8:59 pm

(I know there is a parallel post on the Taz but I didn't want to distract people from that specific problem when explaining mine...)

Some months ago I decided to try, for the first time, the Taz and the Slot.
That day I managed to do a few clumsy but nice Taz's and there was no way I could do a Slot.

After that day, I haven't managed to do another Taz !!!!
On the other hand, after that day I have managed to do pretty nice Slots.

So I'm really frustrated with the Taz and I can't figure out why I can't click with it.

Here are the symptoms:
- I pull the top wing a if starting a half axel.
- I get the kite into a flair with the nose clearly peaking out above the rest of the kite at the back (nose pointing away from me).
- During all this I take a step forward and give slack with both lines
- I then pop the opposite hand to start the Taz

This is the key point. The kite makes a strange twist such that it then faces me with it's nose pointing towards me and it does not spin...
I then fly it out of this mess upwards and away...

I know it is a matter of timing and also different kites do it differently.
But I have tried it with my Talon UL and with my Soul.
I have tried popping very soon after the first part of the half axel, have tried waiting longer until the kite is clearly starting to lose height, and all possibilities in between.
I really try to give all the slack I can to the other hand, but I just can't get it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Hi Ara,

The Talon UL is not a kite that can taz easily, but it sure give you nice slot machine. Most of the time the kite would rather flip to fade then rotate. Minor adjustment needed to make it rotate easier. Some kites need the nose to be higher some don't. Some you need to wait before the 2nd input, some almost immediately.

I haven't try the Soul so I can't comment on that, but try give a firm pull rather than pop for the second input then take a step forward and slack. After the full rotation, step back as you pull both line to recover.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian. Thanks so much for your comments. They are very comforting.

Ah, this is great to know! Because I have actually been trying more to get the Taz on the Talon than on the Soul. The reason is that since I get such beautiful Slots no the Talon I thought it would be the same with the Taz!
So now I will try more the Soul and see how it goes.

Yes, that sounds very much like what I'm experiencing.

Which "minor adjustments" are you talking about?
Please do send more details on this.

OK, I'll concentrate on this and see if my body wants to do it too

Thanks so much!!!

Ara - your not the only one who has spent time trying to get the Talon to Taz. Me, Si, and Steve have spent most of the year trying for them, even with the knowledge that it is not that achievable on the Talons - but I bet your Fractured Axel is now sublime lol. Strangely enough, the only times we have seemed to hit them is when the winds were strong and the Venteds were out.

But the practice has not been too waste, after all the attempts on the Talons, first fly on the Sixth Sense and the Taz was there, admittedly not yet pretty but there. Very much a kite dependant trick IMO. But if it was easy learning new tricks it would be boring. I'll be watching this thread with great interest as it's top of my list of tricks to master.

Hi Ian, thanks for your comments.

I found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX2jHF1ALIQ

Watch from about 2:48 to 2:56
Two very nice and clean Taz's with a Talon UL and apparently not much wind.
Anyone knows who this man is?
He MUST tell us the secret... :x

Cheers! :-D

Yes thanks.
I've watched those like 5 trillion times... :-(

But the fact is that the kite is not a Talon UL as is the one in the video I posted just before.

But thanks a lot anyway. I always make sure I take a look at these videos once in a while to see if my mirror neurons record in my brain the motor information from the visual information.

Cheers!

I will concur with this Ara - as Muhamad sold me his UL Talon - I pulled it off once but I am still learning and have been giving it a go on my SF more often (the winds havent been low enough to pull the UL out of the bag)

Hello to all,

After some effort to do it in a sistematic way I found out that it is very important the initial position of the hands. Try to have it as backwards as possible. Take special attention in DPmamma74 tutorial to the positions of the hands before first input (beyond body). The kite I have been using is DeepSpace.

Garajau.
