Newbie needs some help...

Wed Sep 18, 2013 7:12 pm

Hi All, would appreciate some help and guidance.
Am looking to buy a new kite for a (re) jntroduction to kite flying. I have an old Flying Wings Beetle and an HQ 3.6 Beamer, so I can just about master the basics... I want to buy a two-line delta kite as I fancy the idea of learning some tricks etc.
What is the best choice out there? Budget between £50 -£100.
Many thanks, Matt

Hi Matt, welcome to the forum. Assuming your looking to buy new there are a few decent kites in the £50-100 range.

HQ Maestro 2 - around £100 and a really good allrounder that comes with a decent set of lines and very trick capable.
HQ Jive 2 - around £70 - not bad and a good set of lines but not as good as the Maestro.

Prism Hypnotist - A bit on the heavy side but well built and trick capable you can get these at the moment for £99 at Kiteworld.
Prism Quantum - A bit more basic and not so tricky but built like a tank - pulls like a train! ( wouldn't be my first choice)

Spiderkites Zodarion - decent kite and tricky - a bit different from the usual.

The £50-150 range is a bit limited in the UK, lots of cheap kites and some nice expensive ones but not much in between.

You also want to look in the sales section for some secondhand bargains!
Current Bag:- HQ Shadow, Spiderkites Zodarion, Flying Wings Soul, Old blue HQ Jive , 'PAW' modded HQ Maestro II, Delta Hawk,

Many thanks for the reply Steve.
Having had a look online I see what you mean about a limited range of kites in the £50-100 range. But I simply can't justify spending £200+ on a 'first' trick-kite. Maybe in the future though...
Will go for either the Jive or Maestro I suspect.

Second hand is the way to go to start off with.
I got a Kitehouse sin for £80 through this forum and I feel it was a great buy.

Understand what you're saying Broady but I'm an impatient soul sometimes. And there is not much choice on the forum or Ebay at the moment - missed out on a Benson Outer Space recently :(
Any specific sites to look on?
Thanks, Matt

Here is your best bet as the sellers in general describe the kites well. Not always the case in general.
There is always gumtree to have a look at? Or other local kite clubs to you, they often have a for sale section.

Went for the HQ Jive in the end. Couldn't really justify more expense at the moment - but who knows what will happen...
Managed to get out for a little time yesterday and and am pretty impressed so far. Just got to make sure I start with the basics and get those mastered first....
