What wind speeds are you thinking of when you say 'low wind' and how much are you planning to spend?

Good UL kites: Talon, Gemini, Deep Space
Good SUL kites: Inner Space, Amazing

All of these cost around the £200 mark when bought new.

Others will no doubt recommend lots of other kites!

If you want something a little cheaper you should look at the HQ Shadow - 2-10mph @ £125 ish - Nice kite but can be a bit twitchy.

Also the Skydog Black dog UL is supposed to be good though I've not tried one - it recently won an award at one the big industry shows and pretty cheap at £90.

70-odd at the last count, mostly dual-liners, but also some single-, three-, and quad-liners .... and it all started with 1!! And both my wife and I are flying them, so actually we only got 35 each .... Do you think we're addicted??

You're best to buy a decent standard kite first, you'll get most use out of it. Then go for different variants...............

You might well say 'he would say that wouldn't he if he's selling one' but the Diablis I'm selling on the forum would make a good beginners kite, and flies very well in low wind with the top cross spreader and tail weight removed.

For £80 plus postage you get a kite full size (2.3m) kite with a decent frame, capable of every trick in the book, and which is a much better proposition to learn on than something smaller and therefore twitchier.

Don't take my word for it though. Ask other forum members if what I've said is right.

+1

And I'd add to stick to the one kite for as long as possible. Choping and changing between kites is a sure fire route to confusion. Pick one and stick with it. 8)
